Elena earned her B.B.A. in Marketing and International Business from the University of Iowa, followed by a J.D. from Creighton University School of Law in 2003. She is licensed to practice law in Nebraska, Iowa, the U.S. Immigration Court, the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
For over fourteen years, Elena practiced immigration law at a private firm in Omaha, representing clients in Immigration Court. In 2017, she transitioned to the nonprofit sector, where she found deep fulfillment serving low-income families. She worked at Immigrant Legal Center, advocating for children in both state and immigration proceedings, and later joined the Women’s Center for Advancement (WCA) in 2019, focusing on family law and immigration for victims of trafficking, abuse, and neglect.
Elena is a certified Guardian Ad Litem and serves as a limited scope immigration attorney in juvenile court, representing immigrant children in the foster care system.
She currently serves on the board of the Heart Ministry Center and was appointed to the Nebraska Supreme Court’s Committee on Equity and Fairness. Elena also collaborates closely with Heartland Integration Center, leading “Know Your Rights” presentations to empower immigrant communities.
